Classic Safari Details

This 10-day Classic Uganda safari is the definitive “Grand Tour” of the Pearl of Africa. It is designed for those who want to see it all—from the iconic “Big Five” on the sprawling northern savannahs to the intimate, mist-shrouded encounters with endangered mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in the south.

Throughout this journey, you can expect a kaleidoscope of landscapes: the thundering power of the Nile, the emerald crater lakes of the west, the ancient rainforests of the Albertine Rift, and the serene, island-dotted waters of Lake Bunyonyi. This is not just a wildlife tour; it is a deep dive into the diverse ecosystems and warm hospitality that make Uganda one of the most compelling destinations on the continent.

Safari Itinerary

Day 1Arrival and Lake Victoria Breezes

Your journey begins with a warm welcome at Entebbe International Airport. After a short transfer to your hotel, you can spend the afternoon shaking off the jet lag by the shores of Lake Victoria. If you arrive early, you may opt for a visit to the Entebbe Botanical Gardens—home to monkeys and diverse birdlife—or take a sunset boat cruise to see the local fishermen bringing in their daily catch.

Day 2- The Rhino Sanctuary and Murchison Falls

Heading north from the capital, your first stop is the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Here, you will join a ranger for a walking safari to track Southern White Rhinos on foot, a vital conservation success story in Uganda. After a delicious lunch, you will continue into Murchison Falls National Park. Before checking into your lodge, you will visit the “Top of the Falls” to stand where the mighty Nile is squeezed through a seven-meter gap, creating a thunderous spectacle of raw power.

Day 3Savannah Game Drive and Nile River Cruise

Experience a classic African sunrise during a morning game drive on the northern banks of the Nile. This is prime territory for spotting lions, leopards, Rothschild’s giraffes, and massive herds of elephants. In the afternoon, the perspective shifts as you board a boat for a cruise upstream. You will glide past pods of hippos and enormous Nile crocodiles basking on the banks, eventually reaching the turbulent “Devil’s Cauldron” at the base of the falls.

Day 4Travel to the Primate Capital

Today is a scenic transit day as you leave the savannah behind and head toward the lush foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. The drive takes you through vibrant rural villages and vast tea plantations that paint the landscape a brilliant green. You will arrive in Fort Portal, a charming town near Kibale National Park, in time for a relaxed evening and a briefing on the chimpanzee trekking adventure that awaits.

Day 5Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Wetland

Enter the dense canopy of Kibale Forest, home to the highest density of primates in Africa. You will spend the morning tracking a habituated troop of chimpanzees, our closest living relatives, as they swing through the trees and interact on the forest floor. In the afternoon, you will visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a community-led nature walk. This swamp is a haven for the Great Blue Turaco and several monkey species, offering a great look at local conservation efforts.

Day 6Craters and the Kazinga Channel

Your route south takes you through the stunning “Explosion Craters” area, where dozens of ancient volcanic lakes dot the landscape. Entering Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will spend the afternoon on a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. This natural waterway connects Lake Edward and Lake George and boasts one of the world’s highest concentrations of hippos, as well as elephants and buffaloes that come to the water to drink.

Day 7 Tree-Climbing Lions and Bwindi Ascent

Explore the remote Ishasha sector in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This area is famous for its unique population of lions that have adapted to climbing the sprawling limbs of ancient fig trees. After a morning game drive, you will begin the climb into the Kigezi Highlands. The air turns crisp and the views expand over terraced hillsides as you reach the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Day 8 Mountain gorilla trekking begins

This is the heart of the Uganda safari adventure. After a morning briefing, you will plunge into the ancient, tangled rainforest of Bwindi with expert rangers. The trek to find the gorillas can take several hours, but the reward is a quiet, life-changing hour spent in the presence of a mountain gorilla family. Observing these gentle giants in their natural home is a profound experience that few people on earth ever witness.

Day 9Relaxation at Lake Bunyonyi

After the physical intensity of the gorilla trek, you will move to Lake Bunyonyi—the “Place of Many Little Birds.” Known as one of the most beautiful lakes in Africa, it is dotted with 29 islands and surrounded by steep, terraced hills. You can spend the day canoeing, visiting the historic Punishment Island, or simply relaxing on the deck of your lodge, taking in the serene, highland atmosphere.

You will stop at the Equator crossing in Kayabwe for a classic photo opportunity and some last-minute shopping for handmade Ugandan crafts. Following a farewell lunch, you will continue to Entebbe for your evening flight, bringing to a close an epic 10-day journey through the very best of the Pearl of Africa.
