Lake Mburo Tour Details

While Uganda is famous for its dense jungles, Lake Mburo National Park offers a different kind of magic. As the closest savannah park to Kampala, it is an emerald gem of rolling hills, ancient metamorphic rocks, and quiet lakes. It is the only place in southern Uganda where you can witness the majestic Burchell’s Zebra and the graceful Impala (the namesake of Kampala) grazing together. This two-day safari with DK Safaris Uganda is designed for those who want to trade the city’s roar for the call of the African Fish Eagle, providing a compact yet deeply immersive wilderness experience.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 The Equator and an Evening in the Wild

Your adventure begins early as your DK Safaris guide picks you up in a customized 4×4 safari vehicle. The drive southwest takes you through the bustling drum-making village of Mpambire before reaching the Uganda Equator at Kayabwe. Here, you will pause for the classic “two hemispheres” photo and a coffee break.

Upon entering the park gates, the air changes, smelling of acacia and wild grass. After a quick check-in and lunch at your lodge, we head out for an evening game drive. As the sun begins to dip, the park comes alive. You will search for the massive Eland (Africa’s largest antelope), herds of Buffalo, and the giraffes that were recently reintroduced to the park. The highlight, of course, is watching the zebras silhouettes against the orange dusk. We return to the lodge for dinner under the stars, often accompanied by the distant, eerie laugh of a spotted hyena.

Day 2Morning Mist Boat Cruise & Walking Safari

Wake up to the sound of birds—Lake Mburo is home to over 350 species. After breakfast, we head to the water for a tranquil boat cruise. Drifting along the shores, you will find yourself just meters away from pods of yawning Hippos and basking Crocodiles. This is also the best chance to spot the rare African Finfoot and various kingfishers.

Before we depart, we take the adventure a step further with a guided nature walk. Accompanied by an armed UWA ranger, you will leave the vehicle behind and walk through the savannah. There is nothing quite like the thrill of standing on foot just a short distance from a zebra or impala; it connects you to the land in a way a car never can. After a final lunch overlooking the park, we begin our journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, arriving in the early evening.
