Safari Details

This five-day Uganda safari adventure offers a seamless blend of Uganda’s most iconic landscapes, starting with the thundering waters of the north and ending in the misty mountain forests of the south. Your journey transitions from the wide-open savannahs where the Nile River carves through the earth to the ancient, high-altitude sanctuary of the Mountain Gorillas. By combining traditional game drives with a domestic flight, this itinerary ensures you spend less time on the road and more time immersed in the presence of Africa’s most majestic creatures.

Safari Itinerary

Day 1The Journey North and Rhino Tracking

Your adventure begins with an early departure from Entebbe as you head north toward Murchison Falls National Park. The first major highlight is a stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos in the wild. You will join a ranger for a trek on foot to observe these massive creatures at a safe distance. After a traditional lunch, you will continue the drive into Murchison Falls National Park, heading straight to the Top of the Falls. Here, you will stand at the narrow gap where the Victoria Nile crashes down into the “Devil’s Cauldron,” creating a permanent rainbow and a roar that defines the power of the river. You will then check into your lodge for an evening of relaxation overlooking the wilderness.

Day 2Savannah Giants and the Nile River Safari

The second day starts at dawn with an extensive game drive across the northern circuit of the park. This area is famous for its high concentration of Rothschild’s giraffes, as well as lions, elephants, Buffalo, and various antelope species. After a midday break, you will board a boat for a launch trip upstream toward the base of the falls. This stretch of the Nile is home to one of the world’s highest densities of hippos and crocodiles, and you may even spot the rare Shoebill stork along the banks. As the boat reaches the turbulent water near the falls, you will have a front-row seat to the dramatic scenery before returning to your lodge for dinner.

Day 3From Savannah to Ancient Forest

On the third day, you will trade the heat of the savannah for the cool, misty heights of the south. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the local airstrip for a domestic flight to either Kihihi or Kisoro. This short flight saves you nearly ten hours of bumpy roads and provides a breathtaking aerial perspective of the Albertine Rift Valley and the changing vegetation. Upon landing, a vehicle will meet you for the final leg of the journey into Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. As you ascend into the mountains, the landscape shifts into a wall of dense, emerald-green vines and ancient trees, where you will settle into your lodge and prepare for the following day’s trek.

Day 4The Gorilla Trekking Experience

This is the day you have been waiting for. After an early breakfast and a briefing at the park headquarters, you will be assigned to a gorilla family based on your fitness level. Led by expert trackers and rangers, you will hike into the thick undergrowth of the forest, which can take anywhere from two to six hours depending on the gorillas’ movements. Once you locate the family, you will spend one quiet, profound hour observing them as they groom, feed, and interact. Standing just meters away from a massive Silverback is an experience that defies description. In the afternoon, you can choose to rest at the lodge or take a community walk to meet the Batwa people, the original inhabitants of the forest, to learn about their ancient culture and survival skills.

Day 5The Equator and the Final Farewell

Your final day begins with a scenic drive away from the misty mountains and back toward the central plateau. You will travel through the rolling hills of “The Switzerland of Africa,” passing through vibrant local markets and tea plantations. A stop in Mbarara provides the perfect opportunity for lunch before you reach the Uganda Equator crossing at Kayabwe. Here, you can stand in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres simultaneously and enjoy a final cup of Ugandan coffee while browsing for handcrafted souvenirs. You will conclude your journey in the late afternoon or evening with a transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
